Youth Leadership Workshop

This Youth Leadership Workshop took place at the Guilderland Public Library! The Dominating Voices team taught a kids in the Captial Region how to feel confident in their voice. Then they went into how having a confident voice can help you become a leader. Thus, they continued to teach how to use your voice in sitations and hosted activities to help lay the foundation in their youth.

Dominating Voices Summer 2026

Workshop 1

Our first workshop introduced students to Dominating Voices and the art of TED-style speaking. Students learned the basic structure of a TED Talk, explored examples, brainstormed potential topics, and chose an idea they were passionate about. We also introduced the option of using slideshows and gave students their first assignment: drafting a summary or beginning their speech.

Workshop 2

Our second workshop focused on turning students’ ideas into strong, engaging presentations. After an icebreaker and introduction to guest speaker Ananya Grover, students began reviewing and developing their speeches. They also learned how to create an effective slideshow that supports their message without distracting from their presentation. Students were challenged to complete both their speeches and slideshows before the final workshop.

Workshop 3

Practicing for the Stage! Our final workshop focused on preparing students to confidently present in front of an audience. Students practiced their speeches and slideshows, received feedback from both peers and Dominating Voices members, and learned important presentation skills such as delivery, confidence, and stage presence. We also covered final presentation tips, including appropriate attire, before students finalized and practiced their talks for the showcase.

Summer Showcase

The Dominating Voices Summer Showcase was the culmination of our summer program, celebrating the growth, confidence, and voices of every student who participated. Students took the stage to present their original speeches to family members, teachers, and community members. The showcase also featured a special video message from Ananya Grover, a Princeton alum and entrepreneur, and a special guest appearance from Manik Elahi, who shared his experiences and encouraged our young speakers. He is the President from Albany County Young Democrats and works under Congressman Paul Tonko. Thanks to a $450 grant from Youth Squared, we were able to make the program possible and provide students with a meaningful experience. We also presented special awards, generously sponsored by Paesan’s Pizza, to recognize students for their hard work, growth, and outstanding presentations.
